For upkeep and safety, every
facility needs a combination of floor care tools and equipment, from brooms and
cleaners to walk-in and rider-type scrubbers and sweepers. Choosing the right
equipment should be based on your facility’s specific cleaning needs.
Industrial floor sweepers are
designed with circular brushes that rotate rapidly and quickly sweep up debris,
which are then stored in a filtered container inside the machine. These machines
are best used for cleaning up solid metal shavings, wood chips, and fibrous
debris. Scrubbers, on the other hand, are ideal for light, dusty debris on hard
floors, particularly oily surfaces.
In many instances, particularly
for large scale operations, sweeping or brushing alone won’t be enough. You’d
need to sweep first and then scrub to thoroughly remove dirt. You have the
option to buy either two separate machines or a single machine that performs
both functions. The main disadvantage of most combination machines, however, is
that they have limited hopper and tank capacities. The more frequently you have
to stop to remove the hopper and refill a tank, the longer it would take you to
finish cleaning up.
When choosing a combo sweeper and scrubber, opt for a machine that
sweeps and scrubs the surface at the same time, and has larger poly tanks that
are easy to clean and fill to allow for faster cleaning. Also, a machine that
features flexibility and maneuverability helps your maintenance personnel clean
high-traffic and congested areas more effectively.
